It was a bit of a challenge coming up with an idea for the sequel to ‘Angels Calling’, which was presented 2 years in a row. What happened next to the shepherd’s community after witnessing the miraculous child announced by the angel? How did it feel to still be under the jurisdiction of a cruel king? How were things faring for Mary, Joseph and Jesus? What about the ‘wise men’?
‘Promised Land’ was the result, which was presented the following year. It was written intentionally as a sequel to ‘Angels Calling’ and the 2 dramatized song-cycles could be presented at the same time, with an intermission between. ‘Angels Calling to a Promised Land’ is the idea, in a sense.
This opening narration is again sung by Shaelah. There are no fancy recordings of this production as of yet. This recording is a demo for the rehearsal CD.
Opening Narration
Opening Narration
There’s not been much time since a story began long ago
An infant new born and the angels proclaimed of it so
Now this is a tale of the time one year past that great night
With shepherds now facing an ever troubling plight
For there are more things that have happened than we can imagine
‘Cause there are so many new moments that happen to everyone every day
As we’re on our way
Its true
For us and you
Soon after the birth when the angels returned out of sight
The shepherds were left in the dark and the cold of the night
And ruled by a bitter and a self-serving kind of a king
Oppression grew stronger with fairness not his kind of thing
And so he proclaimed for all sheep to be taxed and rated
So he could now choose all the best for himself, for he felt entitled to all
We can recall
Those who say
Greed’s okay
So here we begin as the sun has just set past the hill
With no sheep or men-folk around all is quiet and still
Now it is the time for the young to get ready to rest
And trust in God’s way to bring out what will be for the best
