One of the most beautiful things in life is the sound of a mother singing to a little babe. Lullabies around the world and in every culture and within every family so blessed, there are gentle songs to sing to newborns, and what a wonderful sound it is, no matter the skill of the singer.

This song, in itself, is a lullaby in it’s musical form, but the words are a reflective narrative that introduce a young mother and her newborn infant as they slowly make there way onto the stage. There is always a hushed, still moment in nativity scenes around the world, and this was no different, with the children looking at the baby (safely in this instance, a doll), and at the young girl playing Mary’s part, who many of the other girls in the production must have felt was so lucky to have this role.

Joan, as our narrating ange,l sings this song that reflects on the reality that many young infants born on the far side of the barrier wall, and in this story, in a lowly farm building, similar to a situation from 2,000 years ago.

It worked out without planning that this song turned out to be the song for today’s posting, on the first day of Christmas. Peace to all.

A Mother Sings a Lullaby – 3rd narration

A mother sings a melody
Knowing reverently
There in her arms
Is a new life that preciously
Looks to all adoring eyes

Timeless as moments that we know
Never to let go
Part of us all
Memories of melodies of song
In a mother's lullaby

Every new day holds the birth
Of a new life that is yearning, yearning
Every new dawn holds the light
Of a glorious day
Every new life is a part
Of this world that is turning, turning
One way
As we wander

There still are places where the song
Echoes with the wrong voices that say
There is no room to make it safe
For a mother's lullaby

As in a story long ago
Everybody knows there was no room
For a new baby to be born
For a mother's lullaby
